Macon sees drop in homicides this year, coroner credits Macon Violence Prevention program

MACON, Ga. — Bibb County is on track to record its lowest homicide record in years. 

As of July 1, the county coroner’s office has recorded 14 homicides this year- a 36% decrease from the same period in 2024.

Coroner Leon Jones pointed to the Macon Violence Prevention program as a driving force behind the improvement. The MVP program was launched in 2021 by Mayor Lester Miller and is run by Jeremy Grissom.
